On the far side of the River Soar lie the villages of Barrow upon Soar, Sileby and Cossington. These villagers have long been popular with home buyers due to the wonderful array of facilities, schools and transport links.

Barrow Upon Soar is a friendly village and historically known for a plesiosaur that was excavated here in 1851. The specimen of Atychodracon megacephalus, found in a lime pit outside the village, was nicknamed the “Barrow Kipper”.

At the centre of the village is a roundabout with a sign depicting its skeleton. The skeleton is now on display at the Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, with a full-size replica at Charnwood Museum in Loughborough. Barrow offers riverside pubs, eateries and opportunities for boating and other water based leisure activities.

Sileby is a hugely popular and vibrant village, offering a range of local shops, Tesco store and train station with links to Loughborough and Leicester, onward to London St Pancras. One of Sileby’s most distinguishing features is the Anglican church of St. Mary founded around 1152. Sileby Mill Boatyard is an independent family run business established in 1985 on the site of a watermill dating back to the 9th century A.D. The mill, now a residential building, still retains the original wheel chamber and fittings.

Cossington is a peaceful little village with a church, primary school and The Royal Oak pub, there are two garden nurseries, a café and picturesque walks across nearby countryside and down to the River Soar. The Village hosts an eclectic mix of property and is a superb choice for those looking for a typical country village yet situated within easy reach of local towns and road network.

Quorn, Rothley and Mountsorrel are three picturesque villages in Leicestershire, each offering unique attractions and a welcoming community. Nestled in the scenic Charnwood Forest, these villages are perfect for those seeking a blend of rural charm and modern conveniences.

Quorn is known for its historic architecture and a pub for all occasions including The White Horse, The White Hart, The Royal Oak, Appletree and The Quorndon Fox. There are annual local events such as the Christmas Market and the Quorn Food and Craft Trail. For buyers looking for houses for sale in Quorn, there is a wide range of architectural styles and homes to suit all lifestyles, St Barts Primary School and Rawlins Community College sit in the village and are a stones throw away from High Street and Station Road which offer a range of independent shops.

Mountsorrel is famous for its impressive Mountsorrel Quarry, local landmark The Buttermarket built 1793 and The Mount where the Mountsorrel War Memorial stands proud over the tranquil Soar Valley. The village also features the Stonehurst Family Farm, a popular attraction for families. It is also home to Johns House, Leicestershire’s only Michelin Star restaurant.

Each village offers excellent schools, friendly local communities, and a range of amenities, making them ideal for families, retirees, and anyone seeking a peaceful lifestyle. With strong transport links to Leicester and Nottingham, Quorn, Rothley, and Mountsorrel provide the perfect balance of rural tranquility and urban convenience.
